#1: Visit the National Christmas Tree

This year, delight in the dazzling display that is the 2018 National Christmas Tree. This year's celebration marks the 96th anniversary of this beloved American Tradition. Every year one-of-a-kind ornaments are made by ordinary Americans, representing every U.S. state, territory and the District of Columbia. These artists give their time and talents to design and create ornaments that symbolize the history, heritage and culture of their homelands. The America Celebrates display, which surrounds the National Christmas Tree, is free and open to visitors throughout the month. 

#2: See the "Season's Greenings" Exhibit

Every year the U.S. Botanic Garden bursts with holiday color and cheer at the Season's Greenings showcase, an event featuring thousands of blooms of poinsettia varieties and a model train show. This year's theme is Train Stations featuring plant-based recreations of iconic train stations from across the United States. Explore classic stations like New York City's Grand Central Terminal, St. Louis' Union Station, and many more. 

#3: Stroll through the downtown holiday market

DC's Downtown Holiday Market is your one-stop shop for all your gifting needs this giving season. Before you visit be sure to wear a coast because this magical market is outdoors-only, located just outside the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery. Feel like Santa's helper as you shop for all the good boys and girls on your list while enjoying live entertainment, sipping on hot cocoa, and sampling special seasonal sweet from over 150 regional artisans and exhibitors. 

#4: Go Wild for Zoo Lights

Take a walk on the wild side by visiting ZooLights at the National Zoo, an after-hours event that features over 500,000 environmentally friendly LED Christmas lights, animated light shows set to music, live performances, an art gallery, holiday market, and more. This winter wonderland is open from November 23rd through January 1st exclusive December 24th, 25th, and 31st. Don't miss this unique chance to light up your world.

#5: Enjoy Christmas, German Style

Beginning the first weekend of December, Chistkindlmarkt a German Christmas market, takes over the Heruich House Museum's garden in Dupont Circle. As Dupont Circle's only holiday market, this special event is a recreation of a traditional German public Christmas market and features goods from over 40 local artisans, from jewelers to bakeries. The historic mansion will be decked out in holiday splendor, so be prepared to be amazed. 

This year, take a train ride across America as our annual holiday show Season's Greenings showcases train stations! Plant-based recreations of iconic train stations from across the United States will be represented in the train room. Explore classic stations like New York City's Grand Central Terminal, St. Louis' Union Station, and many more.
